Chelsea tie down academy striker Chizaram Ezenwata until 2029

Chelsea have extended Chizaram Ezenwata’s contract until at least June 2029, securing the future of one of the club’s most highly regarded academy forwards.

The Nigerian-born striker joined the Blues at under-15 level and has progressed through the ranks at Chelsea’s Cobham training centre. His development has been driven by consistent goalscoring, technical quality and an ability to influence matches in the final third.

Ezenwata made a significant step forward during the 2025/26 season. Playing for Chelsea’s under-18 side, he scored 15 goals and provided seven assists in 21 appearances.

Those figures underline both his efficiency in front of goal and his contribution to the team’s overall attacking play. They also helped establish him as one of the leading prospects within Chelsea’s academy.

The forward has also moved into the CNG team, where he has become an important member of the squad. He had previously made his Premier League 2 debut during the 2024/25 campaign, featuring against Manchester City.

His progress continued into the following season and earned him a nomination for the English under-18 league’s player of the season award.

Chelsea believe the new long-term agreement will allow them to continue supporting Ezenwata’s development within the academy. The club’s immediate focus will be to help him build on his recent performances as he works towards the next stages of his career in professional football.

For Ezenwata, the contract represents an opportunity to confirm his potential and continue advancing through Chelsea’s development structure.

Chelsea are due to face Liverpool in the last 16 of the EFL Cup.
