Harry Kane has received public support from within Bayern Munich before the Ballon d’Or ceremony, with team-mate Luis Diaz naming the England captain as his preferred candidate for the award.
Asked who he believed was most likely to win the Ballon d’Or as Bayern’s delegation arrived in London, Diaz gave a brief and emphatic reply.
“The favourite? Harry, always Harry,” he said, according to a video published on X by the El Chiringuito programme’s account.
Kane and Diaz travelled to the British capital with several of their Bayern Munich team-mates, including Michael Olise, Dayot Upamecano, Lennart Karl and Klara Buhl.
The show of support for Kane extends beyond the Bayern Munich dressing room. Club president Herbert Hainer and chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen are also part of the club delegation attending the ceremony in London.
Their presence reflects the confidence within Bayern Munich that Kane has a realistic chance of claiming the individual award.
Kane would make history at the club if he were to win. He would become the first Bayern Munich player to receive the Ballon d’Or since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981.
Diaz’s endorsement came as the Bayern Munich players and senior officials gathered in London for the event, with the Colombian forward making clear that Kane was his choice ahead of the ceremony.
The exchange was captured in a short video shared by El Chiringuito, in which Diaz was asked directly to identify his favourite for the prize. His answer focused solely on Kane, repeating the striker’s first name for emphasis.
Bayern Munich’s travelling party included players from across the squad, alongside the club’s leading representatives. Kane’s support within that group therefore comes from both his fellow players and the people responsible for the club’s senior leadership.
The ceremony represents a significant moment for Kane, who is seeking to become the first Bayern Munich player in 45 years to win the Ballon d’Or. The last Bayern Munich recipient was Rummenigge, who collected the award in 1981.
For now, Diaz’s message provides a clear indication of where at least one of Kane’s team-mates believes the vote should go: “Harry, always Harry.”
