Durban City midfielder Tylo Sanger attracts interest from Scottish Premiership club

Durban City midfielder Tylo Sanger has attracted the attention of a Scottish Premiership club after making a strong start to the season, according to his agent Mike Makaab.

The 22-year-old joined Durban City before the campaign began after playing in the ABC Motsepe League. He has since established himself as one of the club’s standout performers, making 10 appearances in all competitions, including eight in the Betway Premiership.

Makaab told Soccer Laduma that a top-flight club in Scotland had already made contact about Sanger, although he did not disclose its identity.

“There is a team in the top flight in Scotland that has their eyes on Tylo Sanger. I got a call from their head of recruitment and they asked about him,” Makaab said.

The midfielder previously played for Cape Town Spurs and has now become a regular contributor for Durban City, having made an impression after stepping up from non-league football.

“My biggest joy is seeing the Tylo Sangers of the world coming from the ABC Motsepe League and playing in almost every minute for Durban City. Those are my joyful moments. A year-and-a-half ago, he was ready to give up through injury,” Makaab added.

Scottish interest in South African talent

Sanger’s emergence comes as Bafana Bafana defender Olwethu Makhanya continues to make an impact in Scotland.

Makhanya joined Glasgow Rangers from Major League Soccer club Philadelphia Union and has become one of the Scottish Premier League’s prominent players, earning strong support from the club’s fans.

His performances could encourage further scouting of South African players by clubs in Scotland, with Sanger now appearing to have emerged as a potential target.

Should the midfielder maintain his current form for Durban City, he could have an opportunity to secure a move abroad. Any transfer would also depend on whether his club is prepared to allow him to leave.

Durban City have a reputation as a selling club, particularly from their time operating as Maritzburg United.
