Kylian Mbappe marked his 100th goal for Real Madrid by scoring twice in a 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the Clasico at Spotify Camp Nou.
The France forward’s goals secured three points in a memorable night for the club and took him to the landmark in his Real Madrid career. He left the stadium wearing a shirt with the number 100 on the back to recognise the achievement.
Despite his decisive contribution, Mbappe said the result had been built on a collective performance rather than individual brilliance.
“The player of the match today is the team and the group, because we knew we had to play like men and as one team,” he told Real Madrid’s official channel, RMTV.
“We prepared well in the last few matches, played with the right mentality and gave everything we had.”
Mbappe said the match contained difficult periods as well as spells in which Real Madrid were able to impose their control. He stressed that the victory was important to the club’s hopes of competing for the Spanish league title, but insisted that further progress would depend on maintaining their standards.
The forward also warned his team-mates not to regard beating Barcelona as the end of their work.
“Five consecutive wins mean nothing to us. We want to win every match,” he said.
Real Madrid must now carry the same level of motivation into their next fixture against Racing Santander. Mbappe said the Clasico victory had provided the squad with a psychological lift, but added that it did not mean the season was over or that the team had completed its task.
Although pleased to have reached 100 goals, Mbappe again placed the team’s success above his personal record. He said he was happy to score and help Real Madrid, but considered the collective victory more significant than any individual statistic.
The France international believes Real Madrid have the quality required to achieve their ambitions. However, he said winning trophies would require the players to continue working together and moving as one group.
That unity, Mbappe added, would be central to Real Madrid’s efforts to fulfil their targets during the season.
