Bournemouth became only the third team to take a 3-0 lead at Old Trafford three times in the Premier League after defeating Manchester United by the same score on Sunday.
The result came in the eighth round of the Premier League and delivered another damaging home defeat for Manchester United, while giving Bournemouth a notable record at one of English football’s most famous stadiums.
According to Opta, Bournemouth had previously established a three-goal advantage without reply at Old Trafford in December 2023 and again in December 2024. Their latest performance means they have matched the achievement of Liverpool and Manchester City, the only other teams to have gone 3-0 up at the stadium on three occasions in the competition.
Bournemouth’s victory also continued a strong individual record for Marcus Tavernier in matches against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The England international has now been directly involved in five Premier League goals at the ground as an away player. His record consists of two goals and three assists, placing him among the English players to have made the biggest attacking impact at Old Trafford while representing visiting sides.
Only Harry Kane and Steven Gerrard have scored more Premier League goals at the stadium as away players. Both former England internationals found the net six times in matches against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
For Bournemouth, the latest victory therefore carried significance beyond the three points. It added to a sequence of striking results at a venue where the club have repeatedly exposed Manchester United’s defensive problems and underlined the changing nature of home advantage at the stadium.
The scoreline also revived an increasingly familiar pattern for the hosts, with Bournemouth once again able to build a commanding lead at Old Trafford. Their three-goal margin placed them alongside Liverpool and Manchester City in an exclusive Premier League statistical category.
