Lyon consider Real Madrid’s Endrick as January target after striker injuries

Olympique Lyonnais are considering a January move for Real Madrid forward Endrick after injuries to Luis Openda and Pavel Sulc, with manager Paulo Fonseca making the signing of a striker a priority.

French radio station RMC Sport reports that Endrick is at the top of Lyon’s list of potential replacements for the injured pair. The Brazilian has been identified as Fonseca’s preferred option because of his performances for the club last season.

Endrick joined Lyon on loan from Real Madrid last season and made a strong impression during his time in France. He played 21 matches, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists.

Fonseca confirmed that Lyon are assessing whether to enter the January transfer market, although the club will first monitor the progress of Openda and Sulc.

“We have spoken with Mathieu Louis-Jean, the sporting director, and we will see how Openda and Sulc’s situations develop,” Fonseca said at his news conference before the match against Paris Saint-Germain.

“There may be an opportunity to sign a striker. At the moment, we only have Remy Himbert and Alejandro Gomez Rodriguez as recognised centre-forwards.”

Lyon are due to face Paris Saint-Germain on Monday in a rearranged Ligue 1 fixture. The match was postponed from Saturday because of demonstrations taking place in France.

Lyon sit second in the Ligue 1 table, level on points with Paris Saint-Germain and ahead of them on goal difference.
