Valencia extend David Otorbi’s contract to 2031 amid Liverpool interest

Valencia have extended David Otorbi’s contract until June 2031 and doubled his release clause to 60m euros, amid reported interest from Liverpool and several other Premier League clubs.

The 19-year-old winger, who came through Valencia’s academy, was previously tied to the club on terms that included a 30m-euro buyout clause. Spanish newspaper AS reports that Valencia have now increased his salary and secured his future with the first team.

Otorbi, who is of Nigerian origin, has gradually established himself in the senior squad during the 2026/27 season. The decision to renegotiate his deal before its original conditions were met reflects Valencia’s determination to retain one of their most promising young players.

Liverpool interest prompts action

Liverpool’s reported interest is understood to have accelerated the process. According to Tribuna Deportiva, the Premier League club informed Otorbi’s representatives this week that it intended to trigger his release clause, which at the time stood at 30m euros.

That prospect threatened to leave Valencia vulnerable to losing the winger for a fee the club considered insufficient. By doubling the clause, they have made a potential transfer more expensive and strengthened their position in discussions with interested clubs.

Liverpool have been monitoring young players who could eventually strengthen their squad, and Otorbi’s new terms mean any approach for him will now require a significantly larger financial commitment.

Liverpool are not the only club watching the teenager. At the beginning of October, Otorbi’s agent confirmed receiving calls from several overseas teams, including clubs from the Premier League.

Newcastle have also reportedly sent scouts to assess the winger in action. The interest highlights the attention Otorbi’s development has attracted outside Spain as he continues to make progress at Valencia.

Valencia act before automatic extension

Otorbi’s original contract contained an automatic extension linked to a playing-time threshold across 10 appearances for the first team. Rather than wait for that provision to be activated, Valencia’s sporting department opted to agree new terms immediately.

The club has therefore protected its investment in a player it developed and made clear that it does not intend to lose young talents on inexpensive deals. The agreement also gives Valencia greater control over Otorbi’s future as interest from abroad increases.

With his contract now running until June 2031 and his release clause set at 60m euros, any Liverpool or Newcastle move will be more complicated than previously expected. Valencia’s next match will be against Elche in the 11th round of the Spanish league.
