Bayern Munich insiders reportedly concerned about Vincent Kompany’s workload before collapse
Bayern Munich officials had reportedly grown concerned about Vincent Kompany’s demanding working habits weeks before the Belgian manager collapsed at the club’s training ground, according to German newspaper BILD.
The 40-year-old was taken to hospital on Friday after collapsing while watching a training session involving Bayern’s reserve team at Säbener Straße. The club confirmed that Kompany was in a stable condition and would remain under medical supervision while undergoing further examinations.
According to the report, people within the club had become concerned about the manager’s lifestyle, with insufficient sleep, excessive coffee consumption, irregular meals and an increasingly heavy workload among the issues reportedly raising alarm.
Kompany had also been battling a viral infection in the days leading up to the incident, but continued carrying out his managerial responsibilities.
Following Bayern’s 2-2 Champions League draw against Arsenal on Wednesday, the former Manchester City captain acknowledged that he had pushed himself too hard while unwell.
“As a coach, you always want to do everything,” Kompany said. “I caught a pretty nasty virus last week, and of course, I didn’t listen to my body, and then at some point, my body just said: ‘That’s enough!’”
