Arsenal weigh January bid for Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi

Arsenal are considering a move for Club Brugge forward Nicolo Tresoldi in the January transfer window, with Barcelona also monitoring the 22-year-old German striker.

The Premier League club have joined the competition for Tresoldi after previously sharing Barcelona’s interest in Julian Alvarez. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is looking to improve his side’s attacking output, particularly after Viktor Gyokeres failed to produce the level expected of him.

According to The Sun, Tresoldi is viewed by Arsenal as a player who could provide an immediate improvement while also offering long-term potential. However, a deal would require a substantial financial commitment.

The English newspaper values a possible transfer at about £42m, equivalent to approximately €48m, reflecting the striker’s rapid development at the start of the current season.

Roma made an offer of about €35m for Tresoldi last summer, but Club Brugge rejected it. Other reports have suggested the Belgian club would seek €60m before agreeing to sell the player.

Arsenal could have an additional advantage in negotiations because they signed Greece winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge last summer for about €40m. Tzolis was one of Tresoldi’s key team-mates at the Belgian club, and the positive relationship between the two clubs could help facilitate another transfer.

Barcelona retain interest

Barcelona’s interest in Tresoldi is not new. The forward was considered by the club’s sporting department last summer as an alternative to Julian Alvarez.

His movement, ability to link play between the lines and skill in exploiting space inside the penalty area fit the profile of the forward Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is seeking.

Tresoldi’s market value has risen significantly following his prolific start to the season. He has scored nine goals in 12 matches, including four in the Champions League.

His most notable performance came at San Siro, where he scored a hat-trick against Inter Milan.

Arsenal and Barcelona are not the only clubs tracking the striker. Tresoldi has also been linked with Milan, Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

The forward is under contract with Club Brugge until 2029, giving the Belgian side a strong position in negotiations. The club are under no pressure to sell and would prefer to keep Tresoldi until at least the end of the season.
