Thomas Reis said Trabzonspor must remain united and focused after their 2-0 win over Hearts in the second round of the UEFA Conference League.

The Turkish side secured a deserved victory at home, although Reis admitted they struggled to impose themselves during the opening stages.

“I congratulate and thank the team. We faced some difficulties in the first 15-20 minutes, but after that we managed to impose our style of play,” Trabzonspor’s manager told reporters after the match.

Reis also highlighted the challenge of building a new midfield, with Tim making his first start for the club.

“It was a deserved win. We are talking about a new midfield, so it was not easy, but we managed to settle into the game,” he said. “Tim started for the first time, and we had complete control of the second half.”

The German coach was also asked about Benjamin Bouchouari and Batista Mendy, who have been absent from action in the Turkish Super Lig for several weeks.

Reis said it would be difficult for either player to return immediately to the starting line-up after such a long break.

“This situation is not easy for Benjamin or the other players. We saw that in the Finland match as well. Starting after several weeks out is not easy,” he said.

“Mendy played a week ago. They are feeling better now, but it is not easy for them to start immediately. They are doing their very best.”

There was more positive news regarding Folcarelli, who returned to the starting XI after a lengthy injury absence.

“I am very happy for Folcarelli,” Reis said. “He had been out for a long time and today he had the opportunity to start. We will see what decisions are made regarding all the players in the future.”

Trabzonspor face strong competition for places, but Reis believes the squad has maintained its unity through clear standards and daily work on the training ground.

“We train every day. We have rules and a strong team both on and off the pitch,” he said. “It is not easy because everyone wants to play, and some players are unhappy when they are on the bench, but I believe we are united and looking forward.”

Trabzonspor have made a positive start to their European campaign, but Reis insisted their immediate priority was to stay grounded and concentrate on the next fixture.

“Our European start has been good. We have to remain humble and continue working hard; that is our objective,” he said. “We have an important league match ahead of us, and then we will focus on the next game. We are always looking forward to the next match.”
