Qatar to host final three FIFA Intercontinental Cup matches in December

FIFA has awarded Qatar the right to host the final three matches of this year’s Intercontinental Cup, with the tournament’s concluding fixtures scheduled for 9, 12 and 16 December.

Four teams will take part in the competition: Paris Saint-Germain, the European champions; Mamelodi Sundowns, the African champions; Mexican club Toluca, winners of CONCACAF; and the winners of the Copa Libertadores.

The tournament has already featured two matches this year. Al Ahli defeated New Zealand side Auckland City 1-0 in the opening fixture.

Mamelodi Sundowns then beat Al Ahli 2-1 in Pretoria to eliminate the Saudi Arabian club and claim the Three Continents Cup.

Qatar will now stage the three remaining matches, including the final.

Intercontinental Cup schedule

The first of the three matches will be the Derby of the Americas on 9 December. It will be contested by the winners of the Copa Libertadores and Toluca, the CONCACAF champions.

The winner of that tie will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the Challenge Cup on 12 December.

Paris Saint-Germain will enter the competition in the final, which is scheduled for 16 December against the winner of the Challenge Cup.

Qatar hosted the Intercontinental Cup in each of the previous two years, 2024 and 2025. Real Madrid won the tournament in 2024, while Paris Saint-Germain were crowned champions in 2025.
