Al Ahly double players’ fines after disappointing draw with Al Qanah

Al Ahly have doubled the financial penalties imposed on their players following a disappointing 3-3 draw against Al Qanah in the Egyptian top flight on Wednesday night.

Football director Wael Gomaa has taken the decision as the Egyptian giants seek to address concerns over the team’s performances and demand a stronger response from the players in their upcoming fixtures.

Gomaa also held an extended meeting with the squad on Thursday morning, with head coach Hussein Ammouta in attendance, to discuss the team’s recent display and the need for immediate improvement.

During the meeting, the Al Ahly official criticised several players for performing below their expected physical and technical standards, expressing concern over their inability to deliver the required level of performance.

He reportedly questioned the reasons behind the players’ below-par displays and warned that the team could not afford to continue dropping points through disappointing performances.

Gomaa urged every member of the squad to take responsibility, stressing the importance of greater commitment and accountability as Al Ahly prepare for a demanding run of fixtures.

The decision to double the fines underlines the club’s dissatisfaction with the result against Al Qanah, with the management keen to ensure the players respond positively on the pitch.

Al Ahly will now shift their focus to continental competition, with a meeting against Uganda’s Kitara in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup scheduled for this weekend.

The match offers the Egyptian side an opportunity to put their domestic disappointment behind them and regain momentum as they pursue progress in Africa.

Following the continental assignment, Al Ahly will return to Egyptian top-flight action with an away fixture against Modern Sport.

With financial sanctions now increased, Gomaa and Ammouta will be hoping the squad responds with improved discipline, greater intensity and more consistent performances in the coming matches.
