Al Ahly have taken three immediate decisions after a 3-3 draw with Al Qanah triggered significant anger among the club’s supporters and officials.

The Egyptian Premier League champions appeared set for defeat at Cairo Stadium on Wednesday, having fallen 3-2 behind in the seventh round of the competition. However, Morocco international Ashraf Dari scored in the 90+3rd minute to secure a point for Al Ahly.

The result leaves Al Ahly second in the table with 17 points, four behind leaders Pyramids, who have a perfect record, and one ahead of third-placed Zamalek. Al Qanah moved to eight points and sit 11th.

Speaking on ON Sport, broadcaster Ibrahim Abdel Jawad said the draw had led to a strong reaction inside Al Ahly.

“There is great anger at Al Ahly, and three decisions have already been taken after tonight’s draw,” he said.

The club is seriously considering suspending the players’ financial dues until results improve, according to Abdel Jawad. The measure would be intended to address the team’s recent performances following the disappointing outcome against Al Qanah.

A meeting is also due to take place on Thursday involving the players, head coach Houcine Ammouta and football director Wael Gomaa. The gathering will give those involved the opportunity to discuss the team’s situation after Al Ahly surrendered the lead and needed a stoppage-time equaliser to avoid defeat.

Despite the frustration surrounding the result, the club has decided to continue backing Ammouta. Abdel Jawad said Al Ahly had reaffirmed its confidence in the Morocco coach and made clear that his position was not under threat.

“The third decision we have learned about is to renew confidence in Houcine Ammouta, confirm that he will not be affected, and give him full backing to continue his work in the coming period,” he said.

Al Ahly’s late goal prevented Al Qanah from claiming what would have been a notable away victory, but the draw extended the pressure on the Cairo club as they seek to close the gap on Pyramids at the top of the Egyptian Premier League.
