Arsenal came from behind to draw 2-2 with Bayern Munich in an entertaining Champions League league-phase meeting at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.
Declan Rice’s 82nd-minute equaliser secured a point for Arsenal after Harry Kane had given Bayern Munich the lead from the penalty spot shortly after the hour mark.
The result leaves Arsenal seventh in the table with seven points from two wins and a draw. Bayern Munich have five points from one victory and two draws, placing them 14th after the third round of the league phase.
Arsenal controlled much of the match, but both teams created a series of chances and the game remained open throughout. Goalkeepers David Raya and Manuel Neuer produced important saves, while the two defences also prevented the scoreline from becoming more decisive.
Arsenal took the lead in the 25th minute through Eberechi Eze. The midfielder collected an accurate pass on the left before advancing and firing into the net.
Bayern responded by increasing the pressure and were rewarded in the 35th minute when Alphonso Davies levelled for the home side.
The match continued as a closely fought contest, with both teams threatening in attack and Raya and Neuer maintaining their high standards. Bayern eventually moved in front in the 61st minute after being awarded a penalty, which Kane converted.
Arsenal refused to let the deficit end their challenge for a result. They continued to push for an equaliser and were rewarded eight minutes from time when Rice found the net to make it 2-2.
Neither side could find a decisive third goal before the final whistle, despite further efforts to break through. The saves from both goalkeepers and the work of the defences ensured the points were shared.
