Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib met Cairo governor Ibrahim Saber on Wednesday to discuss cooperation between the club and the governorate.
The meeting took place at the Cairo governorate headquarters, with the club offering to take part in President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s initiative to make the capital greener.
According to a statement published on the governorate’s official Facebook account, Al Ahly will contribute to tree-planting projects in several areas and along routes surrounding the club.
The meeting was held to strengthen joint work between Cairo governorate and Al Ahly. The governorate said Mr El Khatib underlined the contribution sporting and community institutions can make to national environmental efforts.
“Mr El Khatib stressed the importance of the role played by sporting and community institutions in supporting the state’s efforts to protect the environment, increase green spaces and improve the capital’s appearance,” the statement said.
The meeting came on the same day that Al Ahly drew 3-3 with El Qanah in the seventh round of the league. That fixture was played on Wednesday evening at Cairo Stadium.
