Nico Paz puts Como ahead inside two minutes against Manchester United

Nico Paz scored a superb early goal as Como took the lead against Manchester United in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Argentina international struck in the second minute at Como’s Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia during the third round of the competition.

Paz collected the ball just outside the penalty area with Manchester United defender Harry Maguire in front of him. Maguire was unable to prevent the 22-year-old from getting his shot away, and Paz curled a left-footed effort into the far corner.

The goal was a composed finish from a player regarded as one of the leading emerging talents in Argentine football. Paz has attracted attention during his time with Como for his technical ability, chance creation and willingness to shoot from outside the box.

His performances have also increased speculation about his future role with the Argentina national team. Paz is viewed as one of the prominent players who could emerge for the next generation after Lionel Messi retires from international football.

He is among the leading candidates to wear Argentina’s number 10 shirt, which has been associated with Messi.

Paz previously played for Real Madrid and made his international debut in October 2024. During Argentina’s 6-0 victory over Bolivia, he provided an assist for Messi.

The Inter Miami forward has also praised Paz’s talent and his understanding of the game.
