Anthony Gordon said he was already feeling exhausted after 10 minutes of Barcelona’s 4-2 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The England forward, who started for Barcelona at the Parc des Princes, made the admission during a post-match interview with CBS.
Asked how the team had felt during the match, Gordon replied: “I was extremely tired in the first 10 minutes.”
He expanded on his comments, saying the intensity of the game had taken its toll as it went on.
“Well, it was exactly as it looked – chaotic,” Gordon said. “I was very tired in the first 10 minutes and became even more fatigued as time went on, but it was an important match.”
Gordon said he preferred playing in an open, high-tempo style because it produced more opportunities, despite the physical demands it placed on the players.
“I prefer playing this way because it is exciting and creates more chances,” he said. “I know it is an entertaining match for the viewer, but yes, I am extremely tired.”
The Barcelona player also paid tribute to Paris Saint-Germain after their victory, describing them as the strongest side in the world.
“They are the best team in the world, and they have been for two years,” Gordon said. “Hopefully, we will see them again in the later rounds.”
