Moussa Ndiaye to miss Werder Bremen’s upcoming fixtures with groin injury

Moussa Ndiaye will remain sidelined for Werder Bremen’s upcoming run of fixtures as the Senegalese defender continues to struggle with persistent groin problems.

The 24-year-old left-back will miss Bundesliga matches against Mainz 05 and Hoffenheim, as well as the DFB-Pokal encounter against Borussia Dortmund. Werder’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, confirmed the news in an interview with DeichStube.

“The matches against Mainz, Dortmund and Hoffenheim are not an option for Moussa yet. We still need to be patient,” Niemeyer explained.

Ndiaye has been troubled by the injury for several weeks and has been advised by the medical team to rest rather than rush his return. The defender recently visited his surgeon in Barcelona to discuss the next steps in his recovery.

The groin problem is not entirely new. Ndiaye underwent surgery on the affected area in 2024, and the symptoms have unfortunately resurfaced since his arrival in Bremen on loan from Belgian club RSC Anderlecht.

His continued absence represents a frustrating start to life at Werder, where he is still waiting to make his competitive debut. The defender was initially expected to return to team training in the near future, but no definitive timeline has been established.

Despite the uncertainty, Niemeyer remains confident that Ndiaye can make a contribution before the season ends.

“I am certain that he will still help us,” the Werder official said.

For now, the club’s priority is to allow the Senegal international sufficient time to recover fully. Werder will continue to monitor his condition before determining when he can resume training and begin working towards his long-awaited debut.
