Salah revives ‘35%’ joke after scoring in Trabzonspor win over Besiktas

Mohamed Salah appeared to mock Besiktas president Serdal Adalı after scoring in Trabzonspor’s 2-0 victory over their Turkish Super Lig rivals.

The match, played in the eighth round of the Turkish league, saw Salah complete the scoring for Trabzonspor with the second goal.

After the final whistle, the former Liverpool forward posted a photograph of his goal celebration on X. He captioned the image simply: “35%”.

The reference relates to negotiations between Salah and Besiktas during the summer transfer window. Adalı said at the time that Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, had asked for his commission on the proposed deal to be increased to 35% in order to complete the player’s move to the club.

Abbas had previously made a similar joke in August, following Salah’s move to Trabzonspor. The agent shared a photograph of himself with the player and wrote: “You ate my food, and 35% of your food.”

Salah ended his Liverpool career at the conclusion of last season after spending nine years with the club.

He joined Trabzonspor as a free agent on a two-year contract running until the summer of 2028. His salary is reported to be 28m euros a year.

The 35-year-old currently leads the Turkish league’s goalscoring charts with eight goals.

Since arriving at Trabzonspor, Salah has played 11 matches in all competitions. He has scored nine goals and provided four assists.
