Carles Martinez praises Ibrahim Maza after Bayer Leverkusen’s win over SC Freiburg
Ibrahim Maza delivered an outstanding performance as Bayer Leverkusen secured a 2-1 Bundesliga victory over SC Freiburg, scoring once before setting up Patrik Schick’s decisive goal.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder played a crucial role in the comeback, demonstrating his creativity and versatility in the final third. His contribution earned praise from head coach Carles Martinez, who was impressed by both his technical ability and commitment to the team.
“I am very satisfied with him. He is talented and gives us a lot,” Martínez said after the match.
The Leverkusen coach particularly appreciated Maza’s movement and ability to operate in different areas of the pitch, allowing him to influence the game from deeper positions and both flanks.
“He is dynamic, frequently switching between deeper positions and the right and left sides. I really appreciate that,” Martínez explained.
Maza’s understanding with Schick was another major positive for Leverkusen. Schick assisted the Algerian’s equaliser before Maza returned the favour with an outstanding individual run and cutback for the Czech striker’s 76th-minute winner.
“Of course, this connection between Maza and Patrik will continue to be important,” Martínez said, while stressing that the victory was the result of a collective effort rather than the work of two individuals.
Maza’s performance comes at an important stage of Leverkusen’s campaign. The club face OFI Crete in the Europa League on Thursday before travelling to Hoffenheim for their next Bundesliga fixture on Sunday.
