Ragnar Ache edges closer to FC Koln comeback after training return
FC Koln have received an encouraging update on Ragnar Ache after the striker returned to partial team training following a muscle injury.
The 27-year-old took part in portions of Monday’s session with his teammates, marking an important step towards a full recovery. However, he has yet to resume complete team training as he continues to rebuild his fitness.
Ache’s progress offers hope that he could soon return to action, although his availability for Saturday’s home match against Schalke 04 remains uncertain.
Ache sustained the muscle injury during a friendly against Viktoria Koln earlier this month. Although his return to partial training is encouraging, a place in the squad against Schalke may come too soon, with the club keen to manage his recovery carefully. Reports suggest a return in November is more realistic.
Köln continue to face significant personnel problems, with Timo Hübers, Thijs Dallinga, Ellyes Skhiri, Rav van den Berg and Imad Rondić still working in rehabilitation. Defender Joël Schmied is also undergoing assessment after picking up an injury against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Ache’s gradual return will be particularly important for coach Rene Wagner, who has been left short of recognised centre-forwards. The club will monitor his progress throughout the week before deciding when he can safely return to competitive action.
