Omar Abu Taleb marked his first appearance in Spanish football by providing an assist for Getafe’s youth team against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish youth league.
The 18-year-old Egypt youth international began the match on the substitutes’ bench before being introduced in the 67th minute. Six minutes later, he helped create Getafe’s third goal after a fine attacking run.
Abu Taleb joined Getafe from ZED only a few days ago in a permanent transfer, beginning his first overseas football experience with the Spanish club.
His arrival adds to the growing number of young Egyptian players pursuing careers in Spanish football. He joins Hamza Abdelkarim, a Barcelona forward, Omar Yasser at Deportivo Alaves, and Mohamed Haitham and Bilal Attia at Racing Santander.
Abu Taleb represented Egypt at last year’s Under-17 World Cup, which was held in Qatar, under manager Ahmed El Kass.
He had joined ZED in 2022 before completing his move to Getafe. During the 2025-26 season, the defensive midfielder scored one goal and provided one assist in 15 appearances.
The move was described by Hany Ramzy in comments to FilGoal as part of ZED’s continued efforts to develop and transfer young talent.
“Abu Taleb’s move to Getafe was not a coincidence,” Ramzy told FilGoal. “The work at ZED to export young talents is continuing.”
