Zamalek suspend Nasser منسي and refer striker for investigation

Zamalek have suspended striker Nasser منسي from first-team group training and referred him for investigation following his goal celebration against Rwandan Army.

The club said the investigation will take place after the team’s delegation returns from Rwanda on Sunday, having played Rwandan Army in the CAF Champions League.

A statement from Zamalek said: “Motaamed Gamal, Zamalek’s head coach, has decided to refer Nasser منسي, the team’s striker, for investigation and suspend him from group training until the investigation is completed.

“The player will be investigated after the team’s delegation returns from Rwanda tomorrow, Sunday, following the match against Rwandan Army in the CAF Champions League.”

Abdel Nasser Mohamed, Zamalek’s football director, will submit a report to the club’s legal affairs department regarding the incident involving the striker. The report is intended to begin the formal process, with a decision on when Nasser منسي can resume group training to be made after the investigation.

Zamalek had already imposed a substantial financial penalty on the player because of his actions after scoring in the match.

A club source had previously told FilGoal.com that Zamalek was considering suspending Nasser منسي from training with the first team rather than limiting the punishment to a fine.

“Consultations are currently taking place between the coaching staff and the club’s board of directors to determine the most appropriate decision,” the source said.

Nasser منسي scored Zamalek’s only goal in their 1-0 victory over Rwandan Army in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

After the match, the striker apologised to the coaching staff led by Motaamed Gamal, football director Abdel Nasser Mohamed and his team-mates during the players’ dinner.

He accepted the financial punishment imposed on him and confirmed that in a video recorded immediately after the game. The player was also informed of the amount of the fine.

Nasser منسي later issued another apology through his personal Instagram account.

Zamalek must avoid defeat in the second leg, which is scheduled for 24 October, to secure qualification for the group stage.
