Silas rejoins team training in major recovery milestone
Mainz 05 attacker Silas has taken another significant step in his recovery by joining part of team training for the first time since suffering a serious shin and fibula fracture in March.
The 28-year-old trained with his teammates for around 30 minutes on Tuesday before moving into an individual programme and completing additional running work. It was his first group session since the injury, which has kept him out of competitive action for several months.
Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel expressed satisfaction with the progress. “It was a fourfold fracture, and he is well ahead of schedule,” he said.
Silas’s return to the training pitch is encouraging, but the club remains cautious. After such a long layoff, he will be gradually reintroduced to full training intensity before any return to match action is considered.
There is still no confirmed date for his comeback. Reports at the end of September suggested that a competitive appearance in 2026 would be difficult, although his early return to group training offers hope that the timeline could improve.
For Mainz, seeing Silas back alongside the squad is a major morale boost. The next stage will be building his fitness and confidence without rushing the recovery process.
