CAF Confederation Cup: Kitara FC promise players big winning bonuses ahead of Al Ahly clash
Ugandan outfit Kitara FC have promised their players winning bonuses ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup encounter against Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
The two sides are scheduled to meet in the first leg of the round of 32, with Kitara determined to take advantage of home support and make life difficult for the Egyptian powerhouse.
In an interview, vice president Bernard Kanyoro revealed the club’s hierarchy had allocated bonuses for the players should they secure victory over Al Ahly.
“I don’t think Al Ahly will win against Kitara in Uganda. Kitara’s fans will be behind their team as usual, which will make the task very difficult for Al Ahly,” he told Yallakora.
Despite acknowledging the significant difference in continental experience between the two clubs, Kanyoro insisted that Kitara would not approach the encounter with an inferiority complex.
“Al Ahly’s main strength lies in its great experience in African championships, and I know that Kitara may be the less fortunate party in this confrontation on paper, compared to Al Ahly’s experience and great history in African championships, but I still believe in Kitara’s ability to eliminate Al Ahly from the tournament,” he added.
Kanyoro’s comments underline Kitara’s determination to challenge the Egyptian giants, who have built a formidable reputation through their success in African competitions.
Al Ahly’s experience at this level makes them a difficult opponent, but Kitara will be hoping that home advantage, the backing of their supporters and the incentive of victory bonuses can inspire the team to deliver a memorable performance.
The Ugandan club have also set an ambitious target for their continental campaign, with Kanyoro revealing that they want to reach at least the quarter-finals of the competition this season.
“Kitara’s goal is to reach at least the quarter-finals of the tournament this season,” he stated.
He also sent a message to Al Ahly ahead of the encounter, reminding the Egyptian side that their reputation would count for little if Kitara could produce a strong performance over the course of the match.
“The message I would like to convey to Al Ahly is that football is played for 90 minutes, and during these minutes any team can achieve victory,” Kanyoro concluded.
The first-leg encounter is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, with Kitara hoping to secure a positive result before the return fixture against the Egyptian giants.
