CAF Confederation Cup: AS FAR travel to Ivory Coast after frustrating league draw
Moroccan side AS FAR will travel to Ivory Coast on Tuesday to prepare for their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round first-leg tie against FC Korhogo, following a 2-2 draw with Hassania Agadir in the domestic league.
The Military Club are scheduled to face the Ivorian side on 17 October at the Amadou Coulibaly Stadium, with the return leg set for 23 October at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) approved AS FAR’s request to bring forward their travel arrangements as the club prepare for the continental encounter.
AS FAR held in dramatic league encounter
The trip comes after AS FAR were forced to settle for a point against Hassania Agadir in Monday’s Moroccan professional league fixture at the Al-Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia.
AS FAR took an early lead through Anas Bash in the fourth minute, but Imad Riahi brought Hassania level from the penalty spot in the 34th minute.
Hassania then moved ahead in the second half when Ayoub El Qasimi scored in the 72nd minute.
However, AS FAR salvaged a point in the closing moments, with Youssef El Fahli converting a penalty in the 90th minute to secure a 2-2 draw.
Focus shifts to continental campaign
The result leaves Hassania Agadir with seven points, temporarily placing them at the top of the Moroccan league standings. AS FAR have four points after the opening four rounds.
AS FAR must now turn their attention to the Confederation Cup, where they will aim to secure a positive result away from home before the return fixture in Rabat.
The two-legged tie against FC Korhogo represents the Military Club’s next challenge as they seek to progress in Africa’s secondary club competition.
