Hansi Flick hails Victor Osimhen as ‘fantastic striker’ ahead of Barcelona clash
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has described Victor Osimhen as a “fantastic striker” and warned his side to deliver their best performance when they face Galatasaray in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter.
The Spanish champions travel to RAMS Park for their Matchday Two fixture, with Osimhen expected to lead the Turkish side’s attack after recovering from injury.
Flick acknowledged the threat posed by the Nigeria international, insisting Barcelona must be fully prepared to overcome a Galatasaray side he believes possesses considerable quality across the squad.
“Galatasaray have a fantastic striker like Osimhen. They really have a great squad. We need to be ready for this match. We have to play our best football against Galatasaray,” Flick was quoted by Ahaber.
Osimhen returns ahead of Barcelona test
Osimhen returned to action on Friday during Galatasaray’s 3-1 victory over Kasimpasa, coming off the bench after missing three consecutive matches through injury.
His return provides a timely boost for the Turkish champions ahead of the visit of Barcelona, with the striker expected to be considered for a starting role in the European fixture.
The 26-year-old remains a key attacking figure for Galatasaray, having established himself as one of the team’s leading goal threats since arriving from Napoli.
His physical presence, movement and ability to trouble defenders in the penalty area could prove crucial against a Barcelona side that will be keen to control proceedings away from home.
Flick demands Barcelona’s best
Despite Barcelona’s status as one of Europe’s leading clubs, Flick is taking nothing for granted ahead of the encounter.
The German coach’s assessment of Osimhen underlines the threat the Nigerian poses, while his praise for Galatasaray’s overall squad suggests Barcelona expect a difficult contest in Istanbul.
The Catalans will need to manage the home side’s attacking threat while maintaining their own offensive rhythm if they are to secure a positive result.
Osimhen’s potential return to the starting lineup adds another dimension to the challenge, particularly given his ability to stretch defences and create opportunities in dangerous areas.
Osimhen eyes European statement
For Osimhen, the meeting offers an opportunity to make an impact on one of the biggest stages in European football following his return from injury.
Galatasaray will hope their prolific forward can translate his domestic influence into a decisive performance against the Spanish giants.
Barcelona, meanwhile, will be determined to limit his opportunities as they pursue a second successive positive result in the Champions League.
With Flick openly acknowledging the Nigerian’s quality, Osimhen is likely to be among the players Barcelona pay closest attention to when the two sides meet at RAMS Park.
