Trezeguet scores on return from five-week injury absence for Riyadh

Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” marked his return from injury by scoring a stoppage-time equaliser for Riyadh against Al Fayha.

The Egypt international came on at half-time and headed in Al Jizani’s cross in the second minute of added time to secure a 1-1 draw.

Trezeguet had started the match on the bench after missing five weeks because of injury. His appearance was his first since recovering, and he said he was pleased to make an immediate contribution.

“I returned after being out for five weeks, and I was given some time to play after recovering from the injury,” Trezeguet told Rotana Khalijia.

“Praise be to God, I scored a goal. I will get more minutes in the coming period, and we hope to have good fortune in the matches ahead.”

The 31-year-old entered the game in the 46th minute, at the start of the second half. With Riyadh trailing, he met Al Jizani’s delivery with a powerful header that beat the Al Fayha defence and levelled the score at 1-1.

The goal took Trezeguet’s tally for Riyadh this season to two, while he has also provided two assists in seven appearances.

The draw moved Riyadh to nine points and 11th place. Al Fayha remained 12th with seven points.

Riyadh’s next fixture is against Al Hilal on Friday.
