Zamalek fans honour Egypt’s October War heroes with pre-match tifo

Zamalek supporters unveiled a tifo paying tribute to an iconic Egyptian soldier crossing the Suez Canal ahead of their Egyptian Premier League meeting with الاهلي.

The display recreated the famous image of the soldier during the October War, wearing a white shirt with two red stripes. Above him was an Egyptian warplane, while an Egyptian tank appeared alongside him and the Egyptian flag formed the background.

The message beneath the image read: “In memory of the heroes, draw inspiration from the spirit of victory.”

The tribute comes as Egypt marks the 53rd anniversary of the 6 October War of 1973, when the Egyptian army crossed the Suez Canal and reclaimed Sinai from the Zionist enemy.

Zamalek are due to face الاهلي shortly in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League.
