Real Madrid appeal Ibrahima Konate booking from Villarreal win

Real Madrid have appealed against the yellow card shown to France international Ibrahima Konate during their 1-0 victory over Villarreal in the eighth round of the Spanish league, according to Marca.

The defender was booked in the closing stages at the Santiago Bernabeu after a challenge on Villarreal forward Gerard Moreno.

Real Madrid believe video footage shows there was no contact between Konate and the Villarreal player during the incident. The club are therefore confident the disciplinary decision can be overturned.

The appeal comes as the booking leaves Konate one caution away from a possible suspension. If the yellow card is upheld, it will be his fourth in eight Spanish league matches.

A further booking against Sevilla in the next round would rule Konate out of Real Madrid’s meeting with Barcelona in the 10th round of the Spanish league.

Real Madrid are preparing to face Sevilla on Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu in the ninth round of the English league, as stated in the report.

The club are third in the Spanish league table with 18 points, six behind leaders Barcelona.
