Eric Tinkler sets audacious targets with Durban City

Durban City coach Eric Tinkler has set ambitious targets for the 2026/27 season, challenging his team to secure a top-eight finish in the league while competing strongly in three cup competitions.

The South African tactician, who recently joined Durban City after resigning from Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko, is determined to build on the club’s achievements from last season without making sweeping changes to the squad.

Tinkler believes maintaining the team’s existing structure will be important as Durban City prepare for another demanding campaign, with domestic league ambitions and continental football on the agenda.

“I don’t want to make massive changes because last season the club was successful,” he said.

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder has outlined a clear set of objectives, with a top-eight finish in the league among his priorities. He also wants Durban City to make a strong impression in the CAF Confederation Cup while competing for honours in the Carling Knockout Cup and Nedbank Cup.

“We want to finish in the top eight, go as far as we can in the CAF Confederation Cup, and compete in the Carling Cup and Nedbank Cup. There’s a lot to play for,” Tinkler added.

His appointment comes with expectations of maintaining the club’s progress while bringing his experience and tactical expertise to the team.

Having previously worked in the Ghana Premier League with Asante Kotoko, Tinkler will now turn his attention to helping Durban City establish themselves among South Africa’s competitive sides and make the most of their opportunities across all competitions.

With several objectives to pursue, the coach will be hoping for consistency, strong performances and a competitive mentality from his players as Durban City seek to make the upcoming season a successful one.
