Egyptian winger Trezeguet rescues Al-Riyadh with dramatic 90th-minute equaliser against Al-Fayha
Egyptian international Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet scored a dramatic 90th-minute equaliser to earn Al-Riyadh a 1-1 draw against Al-Fayha in the eighth round of the Saudi Pro League on Sunday.
The Egyptian winger stepped up in the closing stages to rescue a point for Al-Riyadh at King Salman Stadium, ensuring his side avoided defeat after falling behind early in the encounter.
Al-Fayha made a bright start to the contest and took the lead in the 13th minute through Lazaro Vinicius Marquez, who found the back of the net to put the visitors in front.
The early goal left Al-Riyadh with work to do as they sought a response in front of their home supporters. Despite their efforts to get back into the game, the hosts struggled to find an equaliser before the closing stages.
However, just when Al-Fayha appeared poised to claim all three points, Trezeguet produced a decisive moment in the 90th minute.
The Egyptian international connected with a perfectly delivered cross and powered a header into the net to level the score, sparking celebrations for Al-Riyadh and salvaging a valuable point for his team.
The late intervention highlighted Trezeguet’s importance to Al-Riyadh, with the forward demonstrating his ability to influence the outcome of a match when his team needed him most.
The result means Al-Riyadh move to nine points from eight matches and occupy 11th position in the Saudi Pro League standings.
Al-Fayha, meanwhile, take their tally to seven points and sit 12th, missing out on an opportunity to claim an important away victory.
Although neither side managed to secure all three points, Trezeguet’s last-gasp contribution ensured Al-Riyadh came away with something from a contest in which they had been chasing the game for much of the afternoon.
