Sfaxien set to part company with Nabil Kouki after defeat and press conference

CS Sfaxien are moving towards ending Nabil Kouki’s time as head coach after their 1-0 defeat by Taqaddum Sakiet Eddaier in the Tunisian league.

Dawen FM reported that the club’s management was preparing to terminate Kouki’s contract, while the Tunisian newspaper Assabah said the decision to dismiss him had already been made.

Sfaxien’s scheduled training session on Sunday morning was cancelled after the management informed Kouki of its decision, according to the report.

Kouki’s future is understood to have been influenced by comments he made at the post-match news conference, during which he strongly criticised a number of people following the defeat.

The 53-year-old took charge of Sfaxien in July and managed the club in seven matches. During that spell, the team recorded three victories, two draws and two defeats.

Kouki’s contract with Sfaxien was due to run until the summer of 2027.

The proposed departure would bring a short tenure to an end. Before joining Sfaxien, Kouki’s most recent coaching role was with Egyptian club Al Masry.

He left Al Masry after taking charge at the beginning of the previous season. His departure followed a 4-1 defeat by Zamalek in the opening round of the final stage of the Egyptian league.

Kouki led Al Masry in 37 matches, winning 16, drawing 13 and losing eight.
