Anthony Gordon scores first Barcelona goal in 3-0 win over Getafe

Anthony Gordon said his first goal for Barcelona had given him confidence after the Catalan club beat Getafe 3-0 in La Liga.

The England winger opened the scoring after only two minutes, cutting inside during a solo attack before shooting from outside the penalty area. The ball changed direction after hitting Martin and found the net.

Gordon had provided five assists for Barcelona since joining the club without scoring, although his performances had earned the appreciation of the supporters.

“This goal gives me confidence,” Gordon told DAZN.

“I felt the love of the fans during the celebration. The team always comes first.”

The forward said he now needed to remain focused and continue working hard if he was to produce more goals for Barcelona.

“If the ball doesn’t go into the net, there is no problem,” he added. “I go to sleep feeling comfortable because I know the goals will come eventually.”

Gordon’s goal came after the international break, during which he scored three times for England. He has therefore continued his strong form at both international and domestic level.

Barcelona’s three goals against Getafe were scored by Gordon, Gabriel Jesus and Jules Kounde. The result extended the club’s impressive start to the season, with Barcelona now having scored 34 goals as they continue to underline their ambition to compete for major honours.

For Gordon, the goal could mark the beginning of a more productive spell in front of goal after his contribution had previously come mainly through assists.

Barcelona moved on to 24 points at the top of La Liga, having won all eight of their matches. Getafe remain on eight points in 13th place.

Egypt international Hamza Abdelkarim came on in the 82nd minute, replacing Jesus.
