AC Milan consider Algeria midfielder Adem Zorgane as Luka Modric replacement

AC Milan are assessing Union Saint-Gilloise midfielder Adem Zorgane as they plan for life after Luka Modric, whose departure is expected at the end of the season.

The 40-year-old Croatia international is approaching the end of his time with the Rossoneri, prompting the Italian club to examine a number of midfield options. Algerian international Zorgane is among the players being monitored, according to Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini in his column for Tuttomercatoweb.

Zorgane developed at the Paradou AC academy, which has produced several members of the Algeria national team, before establishing himself in Belgian football.

He joined Sporting de Charleroi in 2021 and became a regular starter during four seasons at the club. His consistency, understanding of the game and leadership qualities eventually saw him take on the captaincy.

A move to Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer of 2025 marked the next stage of his development. The midfielder adapted quickly to his new surroundings and has since become one of the Brussels club’s most reliable players in the middle of the pitch.

Zorgane’s strength, technical ability and vision are regarded as qualities that could suit a midfielder competing in a demanding league such as Serie A. Those attributes have reportedly attracted the attention of Milan’s recruitment team.

However, there has been no indication of concrete contact between the clubs, and no offer has been made at this stage.

The Algerian is part of a wider midfield shortlist being considered by Milan. Ceccarini also reports that the club is following Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, who is wanted by Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Brighton’s Sweden international Yasin Ayari.

A move to AC Milan would have particular significance for Zorgane because two Algeria internationals have previously represented the club.

Djamel Mesbah played for the Rossoneri, while Ismael Bennacer became a key member of Milan’s midfield after joining in 2019. Bennacer played an important role in the club’s Serie A title win in 2022 and made a lasting impression at San Siro through his energy, technical quality and contribution to the team’s balance.

Although Zorgane and Bennacer have different playing styles, the Union Saint-Gilloise midfielder could have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot if Milan decide to pursue the move.

For now, Zorgane remains one of several options under consideration. There is no suggestion that AC Milan are preparing an immediate approach, with the club’s interest yet to develop into a formal offer.
