UEFA has appointed Italian referee Marco Guida to take charge of Barcelona’s Champions League match against Galatasaray on Tuesday.
The game will be played in Istanbul and is part of the second round of fixtures in the league phase of the Champions League.
Guida, 45, is an experienced official in Serie A. He began his refereeing career in 2010 and was awarded his FIFA international badge in 2014.
This will be the third European match involving Barcelona that Guida has refereed, with the Spanish club yet to win either of the previous two.
His first Barcelona assignment came in the Champions League group stage during the 2022-23 season, when they were beaten 3-2 by Antwerp in December 2022.
Guida was also the referee for Barcelona’s last-16 first-leg tie against Newcastle United in the Champions League last season. That match ended 1-1 in England.
Guida has officiated two previous European matches involving Galatasaray. The Turkish club won one of those games and lost the other.
His most recent Galatasaray appointment was their Champions League league-phase match against Eintracht Frankfurt last season, which ended in a 5-1 defeat for the Turkish side.
The Italian referee’s latest international assignment came during the most recent international break, when he oversaw Greece’s Nations League meeting with the Netherlands. The match finished 2-2.
Guida has also refereed two Serie A matches during the current season. The first was Genoa against Como, while the second was Bologna’s game against Torino.
