Solanke’s stoppage-time equaliser earns Tottenham a point at Manchester United

Tottenham rescued a valuable point at Manchester United as Dominic Solanke’s stoppage-time equaliser secured a 1-1 draw in a dramatic Premier League meeting at Old Trafford.

Manchester United appeared set to claim victory after Bryan Mbeumo put them ahead in the 73rd minute, but Solanke struck in the second minute of added time to deny the hosts.

Egypt international Omar Marmoush came on for Tottenham in the 66th minute, replacing Mohammed Kudus.

The result leaves Manchester United on six points in 12th place, while Tottenham have three points and remain 18th. Tottenham are still waiting for their first win of the campaign after three defeats and three draws from their opening six matches.

Missed chances before the goals

Tottenham created the first clear opportunity when Solanke fired from close range in the third minute, but Manchester United goalkeeper Senny Lammens kept out his effort.

Lucas Bergvall then sent a shot over the crossbar in the 17th minute, before Kudus missed another chance four minutes later when his effort went wide of the post.

Manchester United responded with attempts from Amad Diallo and Conor Gallagher. Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky saved both, in the 34th and 42nd minutes respectively.

Solanke had another opportunity six minutes after the interval, but his first-time shot flew over the goal.

Manchester United thought they had taken the lead through Youri Tielemans, but the goal was disallowed after the referee ruled that the ball had gone out of play during the build-up.

The hosts made three substitutions across the 59th and 60th minutes, bringing on Carlos Baleba, Diogo Dalot and Joshua Zirkzee.

Bruno Fernandes then sent an effort narrowly wide in the 63rd minute, before Tottenham made a double change three minutes later. Marmoush replaced Kudus, while Rodrigo Bentancur came on for Bergvall.

Soon after Marmoush’s introduction, Savio followed up a Tottenham attack with a shot, but Manchester United’s defence blocked the danger and conceded a corner.

Late Tottenham comeback

Manchester United finally broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute. Matheus Cunha delivered a low cross into the penalty area, where Bryan Mbeumo met it and struck powerfully into the right-hand corner.

Tottenham continued to search for a response and found it deep into added time. Sandro Tonali supplied a precise pass to Solanke, who finished in the second minute of stoppage time to level the match and secure Tottenham a point.
