Mohamed Ouahbi plans European scouting tour for Morocco

Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi is preparing to travel across Europe next week to monitor Moroccan players and identify potential additions to his squad ahead of the team’s upcoming fixtures.

The tour forms part of his approach to assessing players at club level and expanding his options for the Atlas Lions. Ouahbi is expected to watch several Moroccan footballers competing in European leagues as he considers possible reinforcements for the national team.

The coach had already visited a number of players before the previous international break, including Abdellah Ouazzane and Sofiane El Faouzi, to evaluate their performances and follow their development.

His latest scouting mission follows Morocco’s recent matches against Gabon, Lesotho and Mali, which provided the technical staff with an opportunity to assess the team’s performances and consider changes to the squad.

The coaching team is now looking to widen its pool of available players and increase competition for places as preparations continue for the next round of international fixtures.

Ouahbi looks to expand Morocco’s options

The planned European tour will allow Ouahbi to observe players in their club environments and assess their suitability for the national team.

Monitoring footballers throughout the season has become part of his working method, with the coach looking to keep track of their progress before making decisions on future selections.

The visits are also expected to help him identify players who could offer additional options in different positions as Morocco continue their preparations for upcoming competitive matches.

The coaching staff will use its assessment of players and the team’s recent performances to determine where further competition may be needed within the squad.

Morocco remain focused on their campaign in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, having made a strong start in Group A.

Morocco lead Group A in AFCON 2027 qualifying

The Atlas Lions sit at the top of Group A with six points after recording 2-0 victories against Gabon and Lesotho.

Those results have given Morocco a positive start to their qualifying campaign as they look to secure a place at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Their next assignment will be against Niger in a two-legged tie scheduled for November, covering the third and fourth rounds of qualifying.

Ouahbi’s planned scouting tour comes as Morocco prepare for those fixtures, with the coach continuing to assess potential squad options and monitor the progress of players based in Europe.

The visits could provide him with a closer look at candidates who may strengthen the team as the qualification campaign progresses.
