Barcelona make it eight wins from eight as Hamza Abdelkarim features in 3-0 victory over Getafe

Barcelona maintained their perfect start to the La Liga season with a 3-0 win over Getafe at Camp Nou, moving to 24 points from eight matches.

Anthony Gordon, Gabriel Jesus and Jules Kounde scored for the home side, while Getafe remain on eight points in 13th place.

Egypt international Hamza Abdelkarim came on in the 82nd minute, replacing Jesus.

Jesus has now scored three goals in six appearances for Barcelona in all competitions. All three goals have come from only three shots on target, giving him a 100% scoring rate from those attempts – the best accuracy of any player in La Liga this season.

The Brazilian is also second among Brazilian players for goals in La Liga this season, with three. Raphinha leads that list with 14.

Barcelona’s 34 goals after the opening eight rounds also rank among the highest totals in La Liga history. Sevilla scored 41 in 1940-41, while Athletic Bilbao recorded 34 in 1930-31.

Barcelona strike early

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick named Jesus in the starting line-up in place of the injured Raphinha, alongside Lamine Yamal and Gordon.

Goalkeeper Joan Garcia also returned to the starting XI after missing Barcelona’s previous two matches because of injury.

The hosts needed only two minutes to take the lead. Gordon produced a solo run before sending a powerful shot beyond the Getafe goalkeeper for his first Barcelona goal.

Dani Olmo had a chance to double the advantage in the 14th minute after breaking through one-on-one, but the goalkeeper blocked his effort.

Getafe’s goalkeeper was called into action again four minutes later, producing an impressive save to keep out Eric Garcia’s fierce strike from outside the penalty area.

Barcelona eventually added a second in the 31st minute. Jesus created space for himself with individual skill before placing his finish into the Getafe net.

Jules Kounde missed an opportunity to score before half-time when his effort from close range was saved.

The France international did find the net in the 73rd minute, completing the scoring after being picked out by a precise pass from Yamal.

The result gave Barcelona their eighth consecutive La Liga victory, keeping them at the top of the table with a maximum 24 points.

Barcelona will face Real Betis in the ninth round on Saturday, while Getafe host Rayo Vallecano on Monday.
