Chibuike Nwaiwu Attracting Attention From England

Chibuike Nwaiwu scored his first goal of the season as Trabzonspor claimed a commanding 3-0 victory over Samsunspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday, delivering a statement performance in the Black Sea derby.

The Nigerian defender struck in the 38th minute at Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadyumu, capitalising on a goalkeeping error to extend Trabzonspor’s lead after Ernest Muçi had opened the scoring.

Franculino Djú added a third goal before half-time as Trabzonspor overwhelmed their regional rivals with an impressive attacking display to secure all three points.

The result also ensured Nwaiwu avoided a suspension ahead of Trabzonspor’s next league fixture against Besiktas on Monday, October 19.

Nwaiwu capitalises on goalkeeping error

Trabzonspor took control of the contest in the 28th minute when Muçi found the net with a finish from inside the penalty area.

The visitors continued to press and doubled their advantage 10 minutes later. Samsunspor goalkeeper Okan Kocuk failed to hold Muçi’s effort, presenting Nwaiwu with the opportunity to score from close range.

The centre-back made no mistake, registering his first goal of the campaign and strengthening Trabzonspor’s grip on the derby.

Djú completed the first-half scoring in the 40th minute, putting the visitors firmly in control before the interval.

Trabzonspor’s three-goal burst underlined their superiority during the opening period, leaving Samsunspor with a difficult task after the break.

Nwaiwu’s contribution was particularly significant as he combined his defensive responsibilities with a valuable goal in a convincing team performance.

Defender avoids Besiktas suspension

Beyond finding the net, Nwaiwu also emerged from the derby without receiving a booking, allowing him to remain available for Trabzonspor’s upcoming meeting with Besiktas.

The Nigeria international had collected yellow cards in three consecutive matches against Basaksehir, Amed SK and Genclerbirligi.

Another booking against Samsunspor would have triggered a suspension, ruling him out of the October 19 encounter at Papara Park.

Avoiding that setback will be welcome news for Trabzonspor as they prepare for a challenging fixture against Besiktas.

Nwaiwu’s availability could prove important as the club seek to build on their derby triumph and maintain their momentum in the Turkish top flight.

Nigeria call-up fails to yield playing time

Nwaiwu’s goal comes after a frustrating international break with Nigeria, during which he was included in the matchday squads for the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

However, the defender remained an unused substitute in both matches and did not feature for the Super Eagles.

His return to club action has now provided an opportunity to make an impact, with his goal against Samsunspor offering a timely boost after missing out on international playing time.

The defender will hope to build on the performance as Trabzonspor turn their attention to Besiktas.

With his first goal of the season secured and the threat of suspension avoided, Nwaiwu has given himself a positive platform to continue contributing to Trabzonspor’s campaign.
