Liverpool have been urged to revive their interest in Ghana international Antoine Semenyo, with former Reds striker Emile Heskey convinced the Manchester City attacker has the qualities needed to strengthen Andoni Iraola’s squad.
According to reports via TEAMtalk, Heskey wants Liverpool to consider a move for the 26-year-old if Manchester City are forced to sell players amid potential sanctions linked to their financial charges.
Semenyo has established himself as one of the Premier League’s dangerous attacking players, combining explosive pace, physical strength and a direct style with an eye for goal.
Heskey believes those attributes would make the Ghanaian a valuable addition to a Liverpool side seeking to maintain its competitiveness across domestic and European competitions.
Heskey highlights Semenyo’s attacking qualities
The former Liverpool forward believes Semenyo possesses the qualities demanded of wide players at clubs competing for major honours, particularly his ability to create opportunities and score goals.
“Semenyo is a very explosive attacking player who’s got an eye for goal.
“He’s exactly what the top four teams want in a wide player – not only do you create, but you’re explosive enough to go and score some goals yourself,” Heskey said.
Semenyo’s combination of speed, strength and attacking intent could offer Liverpool another dimension in the final third.
His ability to carry the ball into dangerous areas, take on defenders and operate across the forward line would give Iraola additional tactical flexibility.
The Ghanaian’s direct approach also makes him capable of creating opportunities independently, an attribute that could prove valuable when Liverpool face opponents who defend deep or attempt to restrict space in attacking areas.
Manchester City situation could open door
Liverpool have previously been linked with Semenyo, and Heskey believes Manchester City’s circumstances could provide an opportunity for the Merseyside club to revisit their interest.
Potential sanctions relating to City’s financial charges have been cited as a possible factor in the situation, although there is no confirmation that the Premier League champions will be forced to sell the Ghanaian.
Any transfer would therefore depend on how the situation develops and whether City become willing to consider offers for the forward.
Liverpool would also need to determine whether a deal fits their recruitment priorities and financial plans.
Semenyo’s experience in English football could make him an attractive option, as he would not require the same adaptation period that often accompanies a move from another league.
His versatility would also allow Iraola to deploy him in different attacking roles, helping Liverpool manage the demands of a crowded fixture schedule.
Liverpool face competition for Ghana star
Liverpool are unlikely to be the only club interested in Semenyo’s services if Manchester City’s position changes.
City would have strong reasons to retain a forward capable of influencing matches in the final third, particularly given the demands of competing for major trophies.
For Semenyo, the immediate priority will be maintaining his performances and continuing to establish himself at the highest level of English football.
A potential move to Liverpool would represent another major step in his career, offering the prospect of competing for silverware while taking on a prominent role in an ambitious attacking setup.
Heskey’s endorsement adds weight to the discussion surrounding the Ghana international’s future, but it does not confirm that Liverpool are preparing a formal bid.
