Abdullah Bakry reveals Zamalek move was blocked by registration ban

ZED defender Abdullah Bakry says he had agreed to join Zamalek in 2021, but the club’s suspension from registering new players prevented the transfer from being completed.

Bakry, 32, became a free agent after his contract with Pyramids ended and signed contracts with Zamalek after reaching agreement on all the terms.

“After my contract with Pyramids ended in 2021, I signed contracts to move to Zamalek and completed all the agreements, but the registration ban prevented the deal from being completed,” Bakry told On Sport FM.

The defender said he was disappointed not to make the move, describing it as a major opportunity and one that would have fulfilled a dream shared by many players.

“I was a free agent, then I moved to Pharco and later to ZED. I was sad that I did not join Zamalek because it was a great opportunity and a dream for any player,” he added.

Bakry began his career at Nabrouh before joining Smouha. He subsequently played for Pyramids, followed by spells with Pharco and Al Ittihad, before settling at ZED.

He moved to Pharco in the summer of 2021 and later joined ZED. He also spent one season with Al Ittihad.

Bakry remains under contract with ZED until the summer of 2027.
