Arsenal fight back to beat Leeds after James Justin opener

Arsenal came from behind to beat Leeds United 2-1 at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, overcoming a difficult second-half spell to claim victory.

The Gunners fell behind in the 55th minute when James Justin struck powerfully to give Leeds the lead. Arsenal responded seven minutes later through defender Ricardo Calafiori before Bruno Guimaraes completed the turnaround with the winning goal.

David Raya played a key role in keeping Arsenal level during a first half in which Leeds grew increasingly threatening. The goalkeeper made several important saves as the visitors began to put pressure on the hosts.

Arsenal created the first clear opening in the 21st minute. Kai Havertz found room inside the penalty area but could not keep his header inside the frame of the goal.

Leeds then began to find space in dangerous areas. Jayden Bogle reacted quickest to a loose ball and tested Raya, but the Arsenal goalkeeper dealt with the attempt.

Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke tried to combine to break through a well-organised Leeds defence, although the visitors remained disciplined and difficult to open up.

Raya was required to make another intervention shortly after the half-hour mark, this time denying Ethan Ampadu as Leeds continued to carry a threat.

Arsenal responded with a move created by Madueke, but Havertz again failed to direct his header on target.

The home side were grateful to Raya once more before the interval. He produced an impressive stop to prevent Gabriel Gudmundsson’s powerful effort at the back post from giving Leeds the lead, ensuring the sides went into half-time level.

The intensity increased after the break, with both teams pushing for the opening goal. Leeds started the second half strongly and moved in front in the 55th minute when Justin unleashed a powerful shot beyond Raya.

Arsenal reacted positively to the setback and restored parity in the 62nd minute. Calafiori finished the move to revive the home supporters and put the hosts back on course for a comeback.

Leeds continued to pose a danger on the counterattack rather than withdrawing completely, while Arsenal pressed for a second goal.

The decisive moment eventually arrived after a well-worked Arsenal move involving Declan Rice. Guimaraes completed the attack by finding the top corner, securing a hard-fought win for the London side.

The result gave Arsenal maximum points after they had appeared in danger of being punished for a frustrating first half and a slow start to the second period.
