Anis Hadj Moussa discusses failed Al Ittihad transfer after Eredivisie award

Anis Hadj Moussa says the disappointment of his failed move to Al Ittihad continues to affect him, despite an impressive run of form that earned him the Eredivisie Player of the Month award for September.

The Feyenoord winger addressed the difficult period surrounding the collapsed transfer, which also resulted in his exclusion from the squad for the match against NEC Nijmegen. The Algerian international has since responded with a series of strong performances, underlining his importance to the Dutch club.

Hadj Moussa was named the Eredivisie’s best player for September after scoring four goals in just two league appearances. His performances helped him put the transfer setback behind him on the pitch, although the experience continues to weigh on him.

“It still hurts in the head.”

The award represents recognition of the winger’s contribution during a challenging period, as he returned to action and delivered consistently in front of goal.

Hadj Moussa has made six appearances in the Eredivisie since the start of the season, scoring five goals and providing one assist in 524 minutes of playing time.

His most productive spell came in September, when he scored consecutive braces against PEC Zwolle and Utrecht. He found the net twice in each match, converting all four of his shots on target across the two games.

Those performances helped him secure the monthly award for the second time in his career, further highlighting his influence in the Dutch top flight.

However, the recognition comes after weeks of uncertainty surrounding his future. His proposed move to Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad failed to materialise, leaving the winger to deal with the consequences at Feyenoord.

The situation also affected his involvement with the first team, as he was left out of the squad for the game against NEC Nijmegen during the period surrounding the transfer uncertainty.

Hadj Moussa has since returned to making headlines for his performances on the pitch. His goals against PEC Zwolle and Utrecht demonstrated his attacking quality and helped him regain attention for the right reasons.

Despite his recent success, the Algerian’s comments suggest that the failed transfer remains a difficult experience. Winning the Eredivisie Player of the Month award provides a positive moment in his season, but it has not completely erased the disappointment surrounding the proposed move.

His form will now be important for Feyenoord as the season continues, with the winger looking to maintain his scoring record and build on the performances that earned him the September accolade.
