Al Hilal to dock half of Crysencio Summerville’s salary after Asian ban

Al Hilal have imposed a financial penalty on Crysencio Summerville after the Dutch winger was suspended for three matches and fined $2,000 by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

The Saudi club will deduct half of Summerville’s monthly salary under their internal regulations, according to Saudi journalist Abdulrahman Abaoud. The punishment follows the player’s direct red card for misconduct during Al Hilal’s AFC Champions League Elite match against Al Gharafa last month.

The AFC confirmed on Thursday that Summerville and Al Gharafa midfielder Ismael Bennacer would both serve three-match suspensions. Each player was also fined $2,000 for their involvement in the incident during the game.

Abaoud said Al Hilal had been waiting for the referee’s report and the AFC’s disciplinary decision before determining the extent of Summerville’s responsibility for the dismissal. The club has now chosen to apply a further sanction under its own disciplinary rules.

The decision was also reported by Saudi journalist Khaled Al Dosari in a post dated 8 October 2026, which stated that Summerville and Bennacer had each been suspended for three matches and fined $2,000.

Summerville’s three-match absence

Al Hilal defeated Al Gharafa 2-1 in the fixture, which was played at Kingdom Arena in the opening round of the league phase. Summerville was sent off in the 33rd minute after becoming involved in a confrontation with Bennacer, who also received a red card.

The latest punishment means Summerville will miss Al Hilal’s matches against Qatari clubs Al Sadd and Al Shamal, as well as the meeting with UAE side Shabab Al Ahli. He is expected to be unavailable until the middle of Al Hilal’s league-phase campaign in the Asian competition.

Al Hilal have previously handed out a similar internal penalty. According to Abaoud, the club fined Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly after he was sent off in the King’s Cup final against Al Nassr two years ago.

Al Hilal currently sit third in the West Region group of the AFC Champions League Elite with three points. They trail leaders Al Ain of the UAE and Iranian club Esteghlal by goal difference.
