FIFA President Gianni Infantino has received the unanimous backing of all 54 African FIFA Member Associations at the CAF Strategy Conference in Santa Maria, Cape Verde.
Infantino described the show of unity as a “beautiful moment” and thanked Africa’s football associations for their continued support.
“A beautiful moment of unity at the CAF Strategy Conference in Santa Maria!” Infantino said.
“Thank you so much for the unwavering, unanimous and unconditional support of all 54 African FIFA Member Associations.
“Across all of football-loving Africa, we stand together in our mission to take our game to everyone, everywhere, without exception.”
CAF President Patrice Motsepe also expressed his appreciation to the FIFA president, acknowledging Infantino’s contribution to the development of football on the continent.
“Thank you, Gianni Infantino, for all you do for African football,” Motsepe said.
The endorsement comes as Infantino prepares for the next FIFA presidential election in 2027. He has served as FIFA president since 2016, succeeding Sepp Blatter, and was re-elected unopposed in 2019 and 2023.
During his tenure, the FIFA World Cup has expanded from 32 to 48 teams. Africa’s representation has also increased, rising from five places to nine automatic qualification places for the 2026 World Cup, alongside an additional potential place through the play-off pathway.
FIFA has also increased its focus on investment and development programmes across Africa, including infrastructure, competitions and financial support for member associations.
The CAF Strategy Conference in Cape Verde brought together African football leaders to discuss the continent’s strategic priorities and the future development of the game.
The collective support expressed for Infantino places Africa’s football leadership among the most significant blocs backing his leadership ahead of the 2027 FIFA presidential election.
