Egyptian forward Ramadan Sobhi uncertain about future after four-year doping ban
Former Al Ahly and Pyramids FC forward Ramadan Sobhi has admitted that he is uncertain about his next career move following his four-year suspension for a doping violation.
Sobhi was handed the lengthy ban after the World Anti-Doping Agency announced the outcome of the case involving a positive doping sample.
The suspension has also brought his spell with Pyramids FC to an end, with the club agreeing to terminate his contract by mutual consent as the player faces an uncertain period in his career.
Speaking in a brief interview with MBC Egypt, Sobhi was asked about his plans following the suspension and whether he had already considered his next step.
The former Egypt international admitted that he has yet to make a decision.
“I don’t know, I haven’t thought about this matter yet,” Sobhi said.
The 29-year-old, however, indicated that he would speak about his future at the appropriate time.
“In the coming period, I will talk about everything related to my future,” he added.
Sobhi rose to prominence at Al Ahly before moving to England to join Stoke City. He later returned to Egypt and became one of the key players at Pyramids FC.
His four-year suspension now leaves his playing career on hold, with the player yet to reveal whether he has plans to pursue any particular path during the period of his ban.
Meanwhile, Sobhi also shared his thoughts on the upcoming Cairo derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League.
The former Al Ahly player believes the fixture remains difficult to predict, regardless of the teams’ current form.
“The match is difficult, and the result is always unpredictable. Currently, both teams have reached a good physical level after playing five matches in the league. I hope we will see a strong match,” he said.
