Former Spain international David Silva is set to return to football three seasons after announcing his retirement, having agreed to join Hong Kong Premier League side Supreme Sha Tin.
The club confirmed the signing on its official social media accounts, writing: “It is truly a crazy moment. We officially announce the arrival of legendary Spanish midfielder David Silva at Supreme Sha Tin.”
Supreme Sha Tin said Silva would travel to Hong Kong shortly to settle in, join team training and work towards regaining his best physical condition before making his debut.
Silva announced his retirement in July 2023 after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury during pre-season with Real Sociedad. The injury brought an end to a distinguished career that included spells with Valencia, Real Sociedad and Manchester City.
The 39-year-old made 771 appearances for his clubs, scoring 124 goals and providing 193 assists.
He also won 125 caps for Spain, scoring 35 goals and creating 32 more. With the national team, Silva won the European Championship twice and the World Cup once.
His club honours include four Premier League titles with Manchester City, two Copa del Rey trophies with Valencia and Real Sociedad, five FA Cup titles with Manchester City and two Community Shield successes with the club.
