Al Ahly cruise past Asyut Petroleum with 5-0 win in Egypt Capital Cup

Al Ahly made a commanding start to their Egypt Capital Cup group-stage campaign with a 5-0 victory over Asyut Petroleum.

Mohamed Magdy Afsha opened the scoring after 10 minutes when he capitalised on a misplaced pass from Asyut Petroleum goalkeeper Abdel Aziz Ahmed. Tahaer Mohamed Tahaer’s pressure forced the error, leaving Afsha with an unguarded net.

Al Ahly continued to control possession, although Asyut Petroleum threatened from a free-kick when Ahmed Younes sent his effort from the edge of the penalty area over the crossbar. Al Ahly’s Ali Mahmoud was later booked for a strong challenge on Mostafa Sadfa.

Sofiane Benjedida doubled Al Ahly’s lead before half-time. Hussein El Shahat carried the ball forward from the halfway line before feeding Benjedida inside the area, where he finished low into the bottom-left corner.

Benjedida briefly appeared to have scored again, but that effort was ruled out for offside. Al Ahly then went into the interval two goals ahead, with three minutes added on.

Hussein El Shahat added two goals in the opening stages of the second half. His first came after Tewfik Mohamed’s cross was poorly cleared by Abdel Aziz Ahmed, allowing El Shahat to finish from inside the penalty area.

He then scored his second after Tahaer Mohamed Tahaer released him behind the defence. El Shahat rounded the goalkeeper before completing a fine solo move.

Asyut Petroleum’s Abdel Rahman Medhat was booked, while Al Ahly created further opportunities from a series of corners. El Shahat saw a shot from inside the area saved by Abdel Aziz Ahmed, and Tahaer Mohamed Tahaer headed over from another set-piece.

There was a brief drinks break during each half, and both teams made their first and second substitutions before the interval. Al Ahly also made a third and fourth change in the second half, while Asyut Petroleum made its third and fourth substitutions before eventually completing a fifth change. Al Ahly also made a fifth substitution.

Omar Sayed Moawad completed the scoring late on. Tahaer Mohamed Tahaer’s pass sent him through behind the defence, and Moawad found the left side of the net from inside the area.

Asyut Petroleum had chances to reduce the deficit. Fathy Gamal struck over from outside the box, while Ahmed Younes tested Hamza Alaa with a long-range effort that was comfortably gathered. Two late corners were also dealt with, one by the Al Ahly goalkeeper and another by the defence.

Earlier, Asyut Petroleum’s Ziad Tarek and Abu Bakr Fawzi delivered dangerous corners, but neither produced a goal. Al Ahly’s Yassin Marei headed wide from a corner taken by Afsha, while Sufiane Benjedida was denied by Abdel Aziz Ahmed.

The result left Al Ahly with a five-goal victory in the group stage, while Asyut Petroleum finished the match without scoring.
