Barcelona are reportedly considering a January move for Liverpool right-back Jeremie Frimpong, with the Netherlands international said to be open to a move to Spain.

According to transfer reporter Ekrem Konur, Liverpool could be willing to sanction Frimpong’s departure for around £35m, with the defender’s reduced role this season raising questions about his future at Anfield.

Barcelona are monitoring the situation as they assess their options at right-back ahead of the January transfer window.

Frimpong’s playing time falls

Frimpong joined Liverpool in 2025 after establishing himself as one of Europe’s most attacking full-backs during his time at Bayer Leverkusen.

He made 35 appearances in all competitions during his first season at Liverpool, scoring twice.

The Dutchman featured 21 times in the Premier League, providing two assists, while he also made nine appearances in the Champions League.

His involvement has dropped significantly this season, however. Frimpong has made just five appearances, registering no goals or assists and playing only 300 minutes.

Liverpool could consider £35m sale

Konur reports that Frimpong does not feature prominently in new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola’s plans and that the player would therefore be open to leaving the club.

Liverpool could reportedly accept an offer in the region of £35m for the 25-year-old, potentially making him an attractive option for Barcelona.

The Spanish club are expected to continue monitoring Frimpong’s situation as they consider whether to make a move when the January transfer window opens.

For Frimpong, a move to Barcelona could offer an opportunity to revive his playing time after a difficult start to the season at Liverpool.
